Produced in the Gaspereau Valley, Gina’s Red is a rich garnet coloured wine with a taste profile as vivid as it’s colourful bottle. This medium-bodied red wine has a mix of blueberry, plum, and dark cherry sprinkled with a touch of savoury cinnamon. The mouth-feel is soft, yet rich, as if drinking liquid velvet. The finale leaves you with a touch of acid and well-integrated mild tannins, which prevents the wine from being flabby.
This red blend made at Gaspereau Vineyards Winery is named after the winemaker, Gina Haverstock. I think the wine could as easily be re-named Gina’s Secret, as I am sure everyone would like to crack the code on how to make a Nova Scotian red wine taste this darn good.
It has everything you want from a red wine: a bold deep colour, a generous plush texture, a medley of dark rich fruits, and a finish that is alive and bright. My favourite part is how the richness is not due to a high alcohol percentage, as you often see from other New World wines. This makes it a great choice for a lot of people that feel ‘red wine gives me a headache’, as usually it’s the higher alcohol that is the culprit (so, white wine drinkers, give this one a try for sure)!
Another great feature of this wine, as it is lower on the tannin and acid range, is it’s ready to consume off the shelf, so you don’t need to look at the bottle in your cellar for a decade before you get to enjoy it! Since the fruit and mild acid are the main stars in this wine, it can pair perfectly with something as simple but delicious as a juicy hamburger. You can make this your go-to wine every time you prepare burgers at home, or treat yourself to The Saturday Night Burger at Rhubarb Restaurant and let this perfectly crafted gourmet burger allow you to just sit back and enjoy the culinary ride. Cheers!
